Youth Outing-Bus Ride to Justice

On June 14th-15th, 2019 Ignite Student Ministry of Strong Tower Bible Church and Ethos Students of Ethos Church will be coming together for the “Buys Ride to Justice” travel experience. The “Bus Ride to Justice” travel experience is a unique element of experiential learning for students. Students will spend two days touring significant sites of the U.S. Civil Rights movement throughout Alabama. Each stop immerses students and adult leaders in inter-generational conversations rooted in the past struggle and challenges learners to think about the work that remains in our society.

This particular model of learning moves participants to consider their own responses to racial injustices as they stand in the physical spaces of past events and allow the voices and faces of history to inform and frame their actions for the future. The journey intends to highlight God’s redemptive work throughout history, prompting students to ask thoughtful, theological questions concerning the mistreatment of all oppressed peoples. The highlights of the travel experience include:

The 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL

Dexter Avenue Baptist Church

The Edmund Pettus Bridge in Selma

The Equal Justice Initiative’s Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice

The Tuskegee Airmen National Historical Museum

The Tuskegee Human and Civil Rights Multicultural Center

The National Voting Rights Museum & Institute

The Slavery and Civil War Museum

The trip cost is $165 per student
